Puerto Montt is a city of Chile, Capital of the Province of Llanquihue and of the X Region of The Lakes.
It has an estimated population of 175,938 inhabitants and 1,673 km² surface. The commune takes in about 16.39 % of the total population of the Lakes Region, 11.39 % of which consists of urban population and 88.61 % of rural population.

It is located in front of Seno de Reloncaví; It has a bay protected in its west side by the Isla Tenglo.
It constitutes a nexus with the austral regions of the General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (XI Región) and Magallanes (XII Región). For its strategic position, this city is the starting point for the displacement toward the places and the tourist attractions of the south of Chile and the Patagonia in general. In addition, its seaport connects the rest of the country with the most austral regions, and its international airport "El Tepual", with the principal aerial terminals of Chile.
It constitutes with the communes of Cochamó, Maullín and Calbuco the Electoral District N° 57 and it belongs to the 17th Senatorial Circumscription (The Southern Lakes).
Tourist attractions
Puerto Monttt is one of the most beautiful and picturesques port cities of Chile.The Angelmo's creek and seafood market is largely known by the variety of dishes offered in the annexed restaurants and the good reputation of its craft stalls.
Another highlight is the exotic and natural beauty of the place and of the nearby Tenglo Island, which can be visited in fishers' boats that can be taken in the creek. With a little bit of luck for the visitor, it is possible that the trip is accompanied by the playful toninas (similar specie to the dolphins) that follow the speed boats. Angelmó was immortalized by the work of the well known Chilean painter Arturo Pacheco Altamirano.
