The Casa Colorada- Santiago Museum, founded in 1981, shows the origin and the historic evolution of the city of Santiago, the transformations and events that built up the character of the Chile’s capital.

The colonial structureof the Casa Colorada Museum dates from the end of the XVIII century and has become a symbol of the initiation of the nation’s independent life, being a present testimony of that period.
The construction of the Casa Colorada has been especially enabled to house the Museum, restoring its principal facade and reconstructing its interior spaces.
The visitors of the Museum will be able to access to four centuries of national history through five halls of permanent collection, organized with various museologic supports such as dioramas, which are attractive three-dimensional scale-representations, that show with painted figures made of carved wood, various relevant events of the history.
- The Hall 1 it correspond to the pre-Hispanic epoch and shows the natural populations that inhabited the Mapocho's valley and de Santiago’s basin long time before the existence of the city.
- The hall 2, recovers the most relevant events of the foundation of the city, which took place during the XVI century.
- The hall 3, Represent different aspects of Santiago’s life during the colonial period from the XVIIth to XVIIIth century.
- The hall 4, shows the city of Santiago during the XIXth century, epoch in which the battles for the Chile's independence took place.
- The hall 5, displays the changes at the urban level that Santiago experimented at the end of the XIXth century.
In addition to the five halls of the permanent exposition, there is a hall especially dedicated to the installation of the itinerant exhibitions.
The Casa Colorada Museum has a specialized library devoted to the history of the city that can be consulted by any visitor.
There is also an auditorium in which different activities are carried out such as workshops, seminars, book release.
The Museum remains open from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 to 18:00 hrs, on Saturdays from10:00 to 17:00hrs and on Sundays and festivities from 11:00 to 14:00 hrs.
