The Copper Museum is installed in the old Sewell's Industrial School. The Museum of the Great Mining of Copper intends to contribute to value the importance of copper in the economical and social history of the country, showing the life of this locality in its booming period, between the year 30 and the 60, and, at the same time, to promote the tourism in an abandoned village.

Documents, maps, geological materials, products, photos, instruments and other pieces related with the production of the copper in the Mineral El Teniente are part of the collection of The Museum of the Great Mining of Copper.

The Museum's Building

Installed by Codelco in the former Sewell's Industrial School, it has represented an investment of 145 thousand dollars. The exhibition includes ilustrations from Lukas, who knew very closely this city, since he worked for the Institutional journal "El Teniente" during the '60.

Contributions to the Museum

The collaboration of the community, that has engaged in this initiative with enthusiasm, has been fundamental. The ex-miners and his families have contributed by providing their houses and donated their personal objects to recreate the life in this mountain locality of the VI Region, during the period of apogee between the years 30 and 60.
Experienceds in life and have donated personal objects, in order to entertain the life at A Universe right now extinguished, cantered in the culture of copper and anchored in a mountain settlement that aspires to be declared Humanity's Patrimony. In addition, many people of the place got education in the building of the old-school, of Modernist style, which adds emotive weight to the place.
