The Church, situated at 2.200 meters over the sea level in the Andes Mountains, was raised within the context of the mining city of Sewell, a place that was initiated in 1904 as a mining camp, reaching its booming period between 1930 and 1960, when about 15,000 inhabitants were brought together.

The Church, that was built on the verge of a mountain in an isolated area of very difficult access, under an implacable climate, is the witness of the effort and perseverance of a small society developed at the beginning of the XX century.

The Church's Construction

The Church is constructed with wood, and the Christ made with  rocks brought from the mine.
Sewell city was abandoned between 1967 and 1971,with an important part of its facilities being destroyed.

Effort of Preservation

Sewell Church was privileged centre of a society characterized by its effort and friendship that will never be forgotten.
Nowadays, the important patrimonial value of these constructions is recognized, and an effort is being put together in its restoration and preservation for future generations.
