The Rapel Central production of energy delivers its bigger contribution to the Central Interconnected System during the winter period. The average annual production is of around 1,000 million KWH.
Its structure is composed by a wall that is a concrete dome with a topside curvature radius of 174 m, 350 m in length and 112 m in height.
In the upper part, there is a public road that contributes to facilitate the communications between the provinces of Melipilla and Cardenal Caro .The engine room, located at the bottom of the wall, keeps inside 5 turbines with its respective generators.
This hydroelectric plant has given rise to one of the most visited artificial lakes of the central area, the Rapel Lake, principally for the excellent conditions of the numerous bays that have been formed, the winds, water, climate and accesses.
